Why I am Here

While creative commons license (CCL), file-sharing communities, FOSS and others have helped to build a new models of production and distribution that make parts of conventional production and distribution obsolete, we now need to create a political movement to support these changes. The reality of how we share and distribute has changed, yet the reality of the legal systems and politics have yet to be redefined. As a community file sharers must work to engage in all aspects of society: arts, economics, politics, law etc. Until we build new systems that in all areas of society the change will not be sustainable.
The Pirate Party of Canada is needed to build a new political structure that forces existing parties to adapt or become obsolete. The party should build and practice holding personal privacy to the highest level, encourages and engages in political discussion and the sharing of government documents, and fight for reformation of information property (IP) law that acknowledges society's right to its own culture and the importance of public domain to innovation and creativity.
The established parties in Canada must be shown that the values of open government, a healthy public domain and personal privacy are the right foundation for Canada. And that in pursuing these values Canada can take a leadership role on the global scene. As a party we must fight to stop the slide of legislation towards increasing restriction on Canadian consumers and creators, create the international framework to replace treaties like the Berne Convention, encourage government to make all of it's actions and finding more accessible to Canadians and educate Canadians about their right to privacy and how technology is changing it.
About Me
My name is Tim Fretz and I am graduate student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the U of S. I have undergraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and worked as an applications engineer for a local company that designs and builds last mile solutions.
