Job Title: Pirate ISP Research Team Member

Responsible To: Team Lead, Yehoshua

Position Summary: To research legal requirements, technical requirements, budgetary requirements, prospective location, marketing possibilities, break-even point, and other information required for setting up a Pirate ISP in a major urban center.

Duties:

  • Brainstorm various ways to make a Pirate ISP a possibility (ie wireless, fibre, etc)
  • Research various information through various Canadian databases
  • Perform Community Assessments to determine the “need” for a PPCA ISP
  • Perform Market Research to determine appropriate price point for a new ISP
  • Perform cost research to determine cost of equipment for setup & maintenance
  • Effectively communicate with other members of the committee
  • Compile information in an easy-to-read and accessible database
  • Help compile a finalized summary report to be presented at the termination of the research committee

Qualifications:

  • Organizational Skills
  • Research Skills
  • Writing Skills
  • Technical Knowledge, especially ISP knowledge an asset
  • Intimate Knowledge of major urban centers and their communities an asset
  • Knowledge of Telecommunication, Electoral, and Business Law an asset

Time Commitment:

  • The team is given a 6-month mandate to produce a finalized report, this may be expanded at that point on approval from the General Assembly
