Dear Manitoba Pirate Party member,

The Pirate Party is currently eligible for registration as an official party. The next step is to become a registered party. To do this we must run a candidate in an election or by-election. Once registered, the Party will be able to give out tax receipts for contributions to allow people to take advantage of the generous tax rebates for political contributions.

There is currently only one vacant seat in the House of Commons, North, which was held by New Democrat Judy Wasylycia-Leis. The by-election could be called at any time between June 21st and October 27.

We are looking for both volunteers to help out with the campaign and a candidate.

Volunteers can come from across Winnipeg and southern Manitoba to help. If you only have a few hours, that is still enough time to make a difference. Volunteers will be needed most during the first few weeks after the by-election is called to collect the signatures needed to register our candidate.

It would be ideal if the candidate was a resident of the riding, however it is not a requirement. Any Winnipegger will be considered as a candidate. If no local candidate can be found the leader of the Pirate Party, Jake Daynes, will step in.

Being a candidate need not be an overwhelming task. Someone with the time to spend a few weekends during the election meeting people on the street in the riding and collecting signatures and a few evenings attending all-candidates meetings are the main requirements.

You have a unique opportunity to help the Pirate Party in an important step in its history by volunteering or consider being the candidate in the Winnipeg North by-election.
