[21:15] <~MikkelPaulson> the group of Pirate Parties hosting WL mirrors are looking for a
confirmation of our position
[21:16] <+Nuitari> you know my position
[21:16] <~MikkelPaulson> you support it?
[21:16] <+Nuitari> I don't mind putting our name on it, but I can't put it on my hosting
[21:16] <+Nuitari> yeah
[21:16] <~MikkelPaulson> right
[21:16] <~MikkelPaulson> sorry, I'll call the meeting to order
[21:16] <~MikkelPaulson> rintaran:
[21:16] <~MikkelPaulson> could you say that again, please
[21:16] <+Nuitari> I think we should use an alternate domain name, like wikileaks-pirateparty.ca
[21:16] <~MikkelPaulson> should actually have this on the record, even if we don't have quorum or
anything
[21:17] <+Nuitari> MikkelPaulson: he's not voices
[21:17] <~MikkelPaulson> no, not looking for a response, just wanted to make sure he knew that we
were getting started
[21:18] <~MikkelPaulson> hm, yeah
[21:18] <~MikkelPaulson> well if we get a dedi these guys are good and cheap
[21:18] <~MikkelPaulson> http://www.caratnetworks.com/clearance.php
[21:19] <~MikkelPaulson> but I think we should discuss whether we'll set up our own equipment after
my meeting with the other PPs this weekend
[21:19] <+Nuitari> quite a few people came forward with their hosting, we should check with them
first
[21:20] <~MikkelPaulson> okay
[21:20] <~MikkelPaulson> do you have a list of contacts?
[21:20] <+Nuitari> not really, I was more thinking about sending a newsletter asking for volunteers
then sorting through it
[21:20] <~MikkelPaulson> hm, okay
[21:21] <~MikkelPaulson> things are pretty murky with Elections Canada, though
[21:21] <+Nuitari> or just asking in the channel
[21:21] <+Nuitari> not really
[21:21] <~MikkelPaulson> not only is it outside of our core principle of getting elected, it also
involves giving aid to a third party
[21:21] <+Nuitari> have you talked with them?
[21:22] <~MikkelPaulson> no, I can contact them tomorrow though
[21:22] <~MikkelPaulson> if you think it won't pose a problem I'll defer to your judgement
[21:22] <+Nuitari> I don't think so, it's part of our campagning
[21:22] <~MikkelPaulson> scshunt has asked to address us directly
[21:22] <~MikkelPaulson> no objection?
[21:22] <+Nuitari> no
[21:22] <+scshunt> Thanks
[21:22] <+scshunt> some quick notes:
[21:22] <+scshunt> First, there's no legal requirement we be devoted solely to being elected
[21:23] <+scshunt> it just has to remain a primary goal
[21:23] <+scshunt> dunno about the third party thing though
[21:23] <+Nuitari> the way I see it is that WL would be a way to get our profile up and get more
chance at getting elected and votes
[21:23] <+scshunt> I guess I lied. One thing only.
[21:23] <~MikkelPaulson> yeah, definitely
[21:23] <+scshunt> thanks
[21:23] <+Nuitari> the 3rd party thing is the one we need to check
[21:23] <~MikkelPaulson> well I'll ask them about that
[21:23] <+Nuitari> also the server would count as a non-monetary contribution
[21:23] <~MikkelPaulson> I know financial aid would be a problem
[21:24] <~MikkelPaulson> so whether that would apply to non-financial aid as well...
[21:24] <+Nuitari> please contact them tomorrow
[21:24] <~MikkelPaulson> will do
[21:24] <~MikkelPaulson> I don't think the press release or rally present any issues to us
[21:25] <~MikkelPaulson> and they were pretty clearly supported among the member base
[21:25] <~MikkelPaulson> now we had discussed (not sure if you were involved) holding rallies in at
least Vancouver, Calgary (U of C), Toronto, and Ottawa
[21:26] <+Nuitari> only peripherally
[21:26] <~MikkelPaulson> Montreal is close enough to Ottawa that I think we could get people
together for a rally on Parliament Hill
[21:26] <+Nuitari> there is also one in Montreal, but I can't attend it :(
[21:26] <+Nuitari> yes
[21:26] <~MikkelPaulson> yeah
[21:26] <+Nuitari> we definitely need flags
[21:26] <~MikkelPaulson> for sure
[21:27] <~MikkelPaulson> know anyone?
[21:27] <~MikkelPaulson> we need to start now if we're to have a chance of getting them ready in
time
[21:27] <~MikkelPaulson> as far as I'm concerned money isn't an object when it comes to flags at
this point, the amount of visibility we'd get from their presence would be worth a lot
[21:27] <~MikkelPaulson> and we only need 10-20 nationwide
[21:27] <+Nuitari> yeah
[21:28] <+Nuitari> no manufacturer yet, but a lot of parameters are dependant on the design
[21:28] <~MikkelPaulson> ESPECIALLY if we're to have interpartisan rallies
[21:28] <~MikkelPaulson> okay
[21:28] <~MikkelPaulson> I'll draw something up quick and send it off to you shortly after the
meeting concludes
[21:28] <~MikkelPaulson> just white logo + text on red?
[21:29] <~MikkelPaulson> the ship looks classier but it really doesn't help out brand recognition
at this point
[21:29] <+Nuitari> yeah
[21:29] <+Nuitari> and I think we can just say Pirate Party in the text
[21:30] <~MikkelPaulson> okay
[21:30] <~MikkelPaulson> I'll make it bilingual too, or do two designs
[21:30] <~MikkelPaulson> probably one would be cheaper though
[21:32] <+Nuitari> maybe 1 side english, the other french
[21:32] <~MikkelPaulson> wouldn't that require screen printing?
[21:33] <+Nuitari> have to see
[21:33] <~MikkelPaulson> I guess screen printing wouldn't be too bad for a flag that's only used
for rallies
[21:33] <~MikkelPaulson> if it's going to be fixed permanently it'd suck
[21:34] <+Nuitari> plus we also need to decide on the size
[21:35] <~MikkelPaulson> hm
[21:35] <~MikkelPaulson> guess that's dependent on costs
[21:35] <~MikkelPaulson> if we arrange carpools from Edmonton to Calgary (and Montreal to Ottawa),
can the party reimburse gas costs?
[21:37] <+Nuitari> yeah
[21:38] <~MikkelPaulson> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/68829/WikiLeaks.pdf
[21:38] <~MikkelPaulson> only better
[21:39] <~MikkelPaulson> I'd like to hand a stack out at the university tomorrow
[21:40] <~MikkelPaulson> then hopefully we can have a firm speakers list by the time the winter
term starts
[21:43] <+Nuitari> yeah
[21:43] <~MikkelPaulson> http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/09dBa832i4bSW/610x.jpg
[21:45] <+Nuitari> neat
[21:46] <~MikkelPaulson> it works all right with one-sided flags too
[21:46] <~MikkelPaulson> even with the reversed text
[21:46] <+Nuitari> yeah
[21:47] <+Nuitari> or we could have a few french flags
[21:47] <~MikkelPaulson> yeah
[21:47] <~MikkelPaulson> that's what I was thinking
[21:48] <~MikkelPaulson> hm
[21:48] <~MikkelPaulson> okay, well anything else to add?
[21:48] <+Nuitari> no that's pretty much it
[21:48] <~MikkelPaulson> fair enough
[21:48] <~MikkelPaulson> meeting adjourned
[21:48] <+Nuitari> oh
[21:49] <+Nuitari> when you speak to EC, ask about if we get money from an affiliate program how
that would work
[21:49] <~MikkelPaulson> how do you mean?
[21:49] <+Nuitari> like Zazzle
[21:50] <~MikkelPaulson> right
[21:50] <~MikkelPaulson> how is that different from selling our own merch?
[21:52] <+Nuitari> we only get a royalty
[21:54] <+Nuitari> btw
[21:54] <+Nuitari> if you get to talk to someone competent enough to actually answer the questions,
write down their info somewhere
[21:55] <~MikkelPaulson> heh
[21:55] <~MikkelPaulson> will do
[21:55] <~MikkelPaulson> I've had a bit of trouble on that front in the past too
[21:58] <+Nuitari> anyhoo
[21:58] <+Nuitari> keep me posted on EC
[21:58] <+Nuitari> i need to go
